Taking Part

The Church relies on volunteers to support its smooth running. These roles include sidesmen and sideswomen to manage the church services, Parochial Church Council (PCC) members to plan and implement the future finances and policies, as well as people to set up lunches and gardeners to keep the church surroundings bright and welcoming. These are but a few examples, so read on to learn about more ways to get involved.

Children’s Choir:

The Choristers (age 7-14)

The church has a thriving children’s choir supported by our fantastic choral scholarships programme.

Choral Scholarships

Chelsea Old Church has begun offering scholarships to all members of the choir in the form of weekly tuition in singing and musicianship. There are currently openings for children in Years 3-8.

Bellringers

Bellringing is an exciting and inspiring way to contribute to the church, learn – and keep on learning – something new, and enjoy a shared activity along the way. We are keen to teach new ringers and are building up to have regular ringing on Sundays.

Sidespeople and Readers

We are looking for volunteers for the 6 pm Evensong services to act as a sidesperson and/or reader. The duties of a sidesperson include welcoming people as they arrive, handing out the books, and taking the collection plates around during the offertory.

Guides

We have a team of Church Guides on Sunday afternoons from 1.30-5.30 pm, to welcome visitors and to give an introduction and guided tour of the history and monuments of the Church. We are looking for additional volunteers who could support our team of guides either on a regular basis or as an occasional/reserve guide.
