There is a long tradition of choral singing at Chelsea Old Church and today the church boasts two choirs: The Choristers, a children’s choir, and The Choir of Chelsea Old Church, an ensemble of professional singers.
Up until the Second World War, the church had a thriving choir of boys and men, as was the tradition of the time. In the latter part of the twentieth century, this evolved into these two choirs.
The professional choir sings every Sunday at the 11 am service
Also for choral evensongs, carol services and the many weddings, funerals, memorials, and baptisms which take place every year.
The Director of Music – Andrew Macmillan – is supported by:
- associate organist Timothy Wakerell
- vocal coaches Zoe Jackson and Polly May Jones
- our resident quartet of professional singers – Sarah Probert, Rosie Parker, Robert Jenkins and Alex Jones
- music administrator David McGregor
The professional choir comprises some of the best choral singers in London, who are often seen performing with other groups such as the Monteverdi Choir, the BBC Singers and the Gabrieli Consort.
