The church relaunched the choir in 2024 with a new programme of Choral Scholarships, attracting many new children from a variety of local schools. We now have a waiting list. This programme costs £15,840 annually to run, and we are looking for sponsors who would be willing to help us continue to reach out into our community and provide this important ministry through music.

What we offer our choristers

  • An introduction to the joys of Anglican choral music
  • A pathway of musical education which fosters teamwork, dedication and service in the context of a vibrant Christian community
  • A lifelong love of singing as well as exciting futures in choral music. Our choristers have gone on to careers in music and to places in prestigious choirs such as St John’s, Cambridge, the Temple Church and the new girls’ choir at St Margaret’s, Westminster
  • Safeguarding the future of the English choral tradition.

“Being in The Choristers was a really special time in my life. It helped me develop confidence, taught me a lot about Christianity and gave me many happy memories. I became head chorister at my prep school and I continue to sing. I am very grateful for the experience.”

The choristers’ choral scholarship centres on a weekly individual coaching session in vocal technique and musicianship to support what they do each Sunday at church. These sessions are delivered by highly experienced professionals who are adept at working with this age group. Our singing teachers are also trained to support children with special educational needs.

Musical Growth

Our choristers develop musical reading skills, vocal technique and ensemble skills, following the Royal School of Church Music’s Voice of Life awards programme.

Personal Growth

Music is proven to have significant benefits for children’s mental health and social skills. Sir Alastair Cook, former England cricket captain, has said that being a chorister “… instilled a lot of discipline in me. My five years at St Paul’s played a huge part in the person and the cricketer I have become. My dad reckons my time there is the reason I have got so far into cricket.”

“The choir has made me braver. Now, when something is hard, I remind myself to take small steps, just like I did when learning how to sing. It has taught me that with patience and practice, I can do things I never thought I could.”
